Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (otherwise known as CBT) is a talking therapy which looks at the individual’s way of thinking and behaving. This may be about themselves or others. Here at Magnolia House, we offer our clients CBT using a wide range of tools to understand and modify this behaviour in a positive manner. This new process enables individuals to re-evaluate their way of thinking and their behaviour. Negative blocks are then worked through enabling our clients to feel more in control and able to achieve their goals.

Sometimes, it is not always obvious to the individual that their negative thinking patterns can result in a feeling of worthlessness and torment which can lead to depression and anxiety. Counsellors at Magnolia House will first talk to clients to assess and determine the root cause. Our aim is then to teach the individual positive thinking strategies and discuss with them new techniques to alter their existing thinking patterns. Often achievable goals are set to put these new techniques in place. This leaves our clients feeling more in control and enables them to look at things from a different perspective.

Behaviours are usually taught, often as a result of experiences within our lives. Individuals sometimes adapt a negative thinking pattern or behaviour which can be debilitating.

CBT is widely used within the counselling industry and the results can often be very beneficial to the individual. It is used to treat:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Compulsive Disorders
  • Addictive Personalities and Behaviour
  • Fears and Phobias
  • Stress Disorders
